The Spirit of Strife: A Hidden Enemy of the Heart

The Spirit of Strife: A Hidden Enemy of the Heart

When the evil spirit of strife takes root in your heart, it becomes a destructive force—one that cannot be removed by human effort alone. It must be expelled by the Spirit of God, and that begins with being born again.

Until that happens, strife will find ways to operate through you. You’ll be drawn into conflict with anyone the devil targets, using you as a vessel for division. These spirits of sin grow like weeds, choking out purity and peace, making the heart impure and imperfect.

Even after you’ve been born again, temptation doesn’t disappear. The devil will still send his spirits—envy, pride, strife, and more—to try and pull you away from your position in Christ. And if you give in to strife, you must fall to your knees and repent. Christ will take that prayer to the Father, and if your heart is truly repentant, you will be forgiven instantly.

But repentance isn’t just saying “I’m sorry.” It means turning away from the sin completely. If you repeat the same behavior—even in a new or subtle form—you haven’t truly repented. The spirit of strife is cunning. It will disguise itself as righteous indignation, clever debate, or even spiritual concern. But its fruit is division, not peace.

To please Christ, you must overcome strife. You must allow the Holy Ghost to cleanse your heart and keep it pure. Only then can you walk in true righteousness and fulfill your calling as a saint of God.

Staying on the Vine: Why Repentance and the Holy Ghost Are Essential

Repeated sins against Christ—especially when done knowingly and without repentance—can lead to spiritual expulsion from the Kingdom of Heaven. Scripture warns that God will spue the lukewarm from His mouth. When we fall into cycles of sin, whether it’s strife, fornication, adultery, or any other temptation sent by the devil, we risk being cut off from the true vine of Christ.

But there is hope.

If you have not blasphemed and are still alive, the mercy door remains open. You can still repent. You can still work on breaking the cycle. And with humility, prayer, and a sincere heart, you can find your way back to the narrow road that leads to the Kingdom.

This journey isn’t easy. Being a true child of God is always a work in progress. It’s never “done” until your final breath. Every day, we must strive to perfect our hearts—not through human effort alone, but through the greatest teacher and tool we’ve been given: the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost, evidenced by speaking in other tongues, is your personal pipeline to God. It’s not about proving anything to others—it’s about knowing for yourself that you are spiritually connected, guided, and empowered. It’s the light that helps you navigate through darkness, the voice that leads you back when you’ve strayed.

Neglect the Holy Ghost, and no amount of Bible reading will lead you to Heaven. The written Word is holy, but without the Spirit, it remains incomplete. The Holy Ghost brings the Word to life, reveals its mysteries, and equips you to walk in obedience.

So if you’ve fallen, rise again. If you’ve sinned, repent. And if you’ve never received the Holy Ghost, seek it with all your heart. Because staying on the vine requires more than belief—it requires spiritual rebirth, daily surrender, and the power of the Holy Ghost guiding you every step of the way.

Revelation 2:5 Context

2I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God8And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;
