🔥 Speaking in Tongues: The Evidence of Receiving the Holy Ghost
In a world full of spiritual noise, clarity matters. For believers seeking the fullness of God’s Spirit, one question often arises: How do I know I’ve received the Holy Ghost? Scripture gives us a clear and consistent answer—speaking in other tongues is the biblical evidence of Holy Ghost baptism.
📖 What Does the Bible Say?
From the upper room to Gentile households, the pattern is unmistakable:
Acts 2:4 – “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Acts 10:44–46 – “For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.”
Acts 19:6 – “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.”
Mark 16:17 – “And these signs shall follow them that believe… they shall speak with new tongues.”
These aren’t isolated events—they’re a divine pattern. Tongues are not just a spiritual gift; they are the initial evidence that the Holy Ghost has come to dwell within.
🕊️ Why Tongues?
God could have chosen any sign—but He chose language. Tongues are a supernatural utterance, a heavenly language that bypasses human intellect and speaks directly to God (1 Corinthians 14:2). It’s a sign that the Spirit has taken control—not just of your heart, but of your most unruly member: the tongue (James 3:8).
🙌 More Than Emotion
Receiving the Holy Ghost is not just a feeling—it’s a spiritual birth (John 3:5–8). Tongues are the audible evidence of that birth. They confirm that what happened in Acts is still happening today. It’s not tradition—it’s truth.
🔍 Discernment and Depth
Some ask, “Isn’t the fruit of the Spirit more important?” Absolutely. But fruit grows after birth. Tongues are the birthmark—the unmistakable sign that the Spirit has entered. Fruit is the evidence of maturity; tongues are the evidence of arrival.
💬 Final Word
If you’ve spoken in tongues as the Spirit gave utterance, rejoice—you’ve received the Holy Ghost. If you haven’t yet, don’t settle for less than what God promised. Ask, seek, knock. The gift is for you (Acts 2:39).
