🎉 The Joy of Holiness: Remembering Spirit-Filled Worship
There are moments in life that leave a permanent imprint on the soul—moments when heaven touches earth and the Spirit of God moves freely among His people. I remember those days vividly: the dancing, the rejoicing, the swirling presence of the Holy Ghost. We didn’t need music videos or makeup to feel beautiful. Holiness itself was our adornment, and the joy of the Lord was our strength.
🕊️ The Beauty of Holiness
Scripture tells us, “He will beautify the meek with salvation” (Psalm 149:4). True holiness isn’t about outward appearance—it’s a divine radiance that comes from surrender, obedience, and intimacy with God. In those services, we were beautified by the Lord Himself. No pink hair, no blue eyeliner—just the glow of the Spirit resting on sanctified hearts.
🎶 Worship as Celebration
We called them services, but they were truly spiritual parties. The Holy Ghost was the honored guest, and joy was the atmosphere. “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). Whether in a sanctuary or a backyard, when believers gather in unity, the Spirit is free to move.
We danced, we sang, we praised with tambourines and cymbals, just as the psalmist declared: “Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals” (Psalm 150:4–5).
💫 The Quickening Power of God
There’s nothing like the power of the Holy Ghost. It can lift your feet off the ground, shake your shoulders, and swirl you in divine motion. “It is all over me,” we sang, and it truly was. The Spirit didn’t just touch us—it enveloped us, comforted us, and proved that God was present and powerful.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” (Acts 1:8). That power wasn’t just for preaching—it was for living, rejoicing, and being transformed.
🌱 A Seed Planted in Childhood
I was around 9 or 10 years old when the Holy Ghost first moved on me through a sermon by Pastor Park Saylor. He lifted his hands, spoke in tongues, and declared, “Jesus died for you on the cross, yes it was for you.” Those words pierced my heart. Tears fell. A seed was planted.
Years later, at age 30, I became willing to obey and serve God with a pure heart. That seed bloomed into a life of surrender. “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God…” (1 Peter 1:23).
🍞 Fed by the Word
Two preachers in that 1989 homecoming video would later feed me with the milk and meat of the Word. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). And when the time came, “…strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age…” (Hebrews 5:14). God knew exactly when and how to nourish me.
🛤️ Led by the Spirit
The Spirit of God goes before us, plotting our course. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”
(Proverbs 3:6). I am a prisoner of the Lord—I go and come as the Master bids. Heaven is my goal, and I trust the One who leads.
